Frequently Asked & Question
The best time to visit Dubai is during the winter months, from October to April. The weather is pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 30°C, making it ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing. The summer months (May to September) are extremely hot and humid, but you can find lower hotel rates and enjoy Dubai's many indoor attractions like malls and theme parks.
The official currency is the UAE Dirham (AED). You can exchange money at the airport, banks, hotels, and numerous authorized money exchange centers found in malls and tourist areas. Exchange rates are generally competitive. ATMs are widely available throughout the city. Credit cards (Visa, MasterCard) are accepted almost everywhere, including taxis, shops, and restaurants.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality. Citizens of many countries (including GCC nations, many European countries, USA, Canada, Australia, etc.) can get a visa on arrival or visa-free entry for tourism. Others may need to apply for a visa in advance, often through their airline, hotel, or a travel agency. Always check the latest official UAE immigration policies for your specific passport before traveling. Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity.
Dubai is relatively liberal compared to other Middle Eastern cities, but it's important to dress respectfully in public places out of consideration for local culture. While shorts and t-shirts are common, it's advisable to cover shoulders and knees when visiting malls, government buildings, or traditional areas like souks. Swimwear is acceptable at pools and beaches. When visiting mosques (like the Jumeirah Mosque), stricter dress codes apply (long sleeves, long trousers/skirts, headscarf for women). Pack light clothing for the heat, but also a wrap or cardigan for air-conditioned interiors or cooler desert evenings.
Dubai is considered one of the safest cities in the world with very low crime rates. Standard safety precautions should still be taken. It's important to be aware of and respect local laws and customs, which are based on Islamic tradition. Public displays of affection should be avoided. Alcohol consumption is restricted to licensed venues (hotels, clubs) and private residences; public intoxication is illegal. During the holy month of Ramadan, eating, drinking, and smoking in public during fasting hours are prohibited. Familiarize yourself with local regulations before your trip. Tap water is generally safe to drink.
