Frequently Asked & Question
October to May is ideal for visiting Meghalaya. The winter months (October-February) are cool and pleasant, perfect for sightseeing and outdoor activities. March to May offers warm, comfortable weather with blooming flowers. Though Meghalaya is beautiful during monsoons (June-September), some activities might be limited due to heavy rainfall.
The trek requires moderate fitness levels - wear sturdy shoes with good grip and carry a small backpack with water and snacks. The hike involves about 3,500 steps! Start early morning to avoid afternoon heat. We recommend taking it slow and enjoying the stunning forest views. Our guides are always there to help and ensure your safety throughout the trek.
Don't miss Jadoh (red rice with pork), Tungrymbai (fermented soybean dish), Doh Khleh (pork salad), and Putharo (rice pancakes). Try local black tea with snacks at Shillong's cafes. Vegetarians can enjoy Khasi-style mushrooms and bamboo shoots. The local honey and seasonal fruits are absolutely delightful. We'll introduce you to authentic local eateries where families have been cooking these dishes for generations.
Pack light layers as weather can change quickly. Essential items include raincoat/umbrella (Meghalaya can surprise you with showers), walking shoes, flip-flops, warm jacket for evenings, modest clothing for village visits, and swimwear for waterfalls. Don't forget your camera - the landscapes are stunning! We recommend carrying a small daypack for treks and some cash as ATMs are limited in remote areas.
Meghalaya's Khasi culture values respect and modesty. Dress conservatively, especially in villages. Always ask permission before photographing people or entering sacred groves. Remove shoes when entering homes. Learning a few Khasi phrases like "Khublei" (thank you) goes a long way. Respect local customs and traditions - our guides will help you understand and appreciate the rich cultural heritage.
